COMPILATION/GUEST SPOTS
COME
ON-A MY HOUSE - LP Size 7-CD Box with Book--Ever since an
unlikely novelty song called Come On-A My House propelled her to
overnight stardom in the early 1950s, Rosemary Clooney has held a
place as a beloved icon of American popular song. In movies like
‘White Christmas’, on television, in concert and club dates
and above all, on recording, Clooney’s warmth and extraordinary
musical skill have captivated audiences for the second half of the
20th Century. The sound of her voice (like Ella Fitzgerald’s)
remains one of the most instantly recognizable in the world. Here is a
veritable Clooney candy store. This first boxed set of three
(comprising our complete anthology of Clooney’s classic
recordings) contains not only the hits that brought her to the top of
the charts, including Come On-A My House, Botch-A-Me, Tenderly, Hey
There, This Ole House and Mambo Italiano. It is also a mother lode of
rarely glimpsed treasures: collaborations with Harry James, Marlene
Dietrich and Frank Sinatra; Rosemary’s earliest recorded
beginnings, as the older half of the Clooney Sisters in their 1940s
days as girl singers with the Tony Pastor band. Also, forgotten
ballads, glorious standards and a cache of country tunes. A must-have
– whether for loyal fans from the Eisenhower years, or new
generations who have only recently discovered the powerful artistry
of one of the greatest popular singers of all time. Included are
seven carefully remastered CDs, plus a 76-page hardcover book, with a
biography by Deborah Grace Winer, and a discography by Richard Weize.
MEMORIES
OF YOU - 7-CD BOX & BOOK--Rosemary Clooney’s phenomenal
wave of success began with an unexpected hit called Come On-A My
House and rapidly swept the globe, fueled by recordings, concerts,
television and movies like ‘White Christmas’. Her
husky-smooth alto and personal warmth have entrenched her in our
culture as one of the most popular and beloved singers of the 20th
century, while her indelible transformation of the American songbook
has earned her a status among vocal icons like Sinatra and Ella
Fitzgerald. The middle and late 1950s—the years covered by this
second volume of Bear Family’s three-box anthology of
Clooney’s complete recordings— finds the singer from
Maysville, Kentucky at the height of her powers. In blissful vocal
shape and deepening her range of material, here Clooney reaches
beyond the novelty hits of the early years and offers us a stunning
array of wildly various treasures: collaborations with Benny Goodman,
the Hi Lo’s and Gene Autry, the fabled album with Duke
Ellington, ‘Blue Rose’, her greatest hits reprised live
from the London Palladium, other concert recordings, breakaway
singles from Broadway shows (‘My Fair Lady’, ‘West
Side Story’, ‘Guys and Dolls’), standards, country
ballads, barroom laments (A Good Man Is Hard To Find)
top-of-the-chart favorites (Mangos) and her remarkable collection of
recordings for children. Indispensable for any lover of American
popular music, this compendium celebrates one of the world’s
most legendary singers at the zenith of her career.
Many A Wonderful Moment - Box 3 of
Bear Family Set - ISBN NUMMER: 3-89795-702-7----This
third volume of the Bear Family trilogy tracing the recording career
of Rosemary Clooney picks up the story in 1958, the year she ended
her association with Columbia - the label that had established her as
one of the world’s most popular girl singers. As the 1950s drew
to a close, her career entered a new phase which would soon establish
her as one of the foremost album artists on such prestigious labels
as MGM, Coral, RCA, Reprise and Capitol. The years 1958-1968
found Rosemary mature vocally and reach the very pinnacle of artistic
achievement as she interpreted the standard generation songbook in
classic albums arranged by such luminaries as Billy May and Nelson
Riddle. Fancy Meeting You Here (in duet with Bing Crosby) and Rosie
Solves The Swinging Riddle are familiar examples, but here too is the
chance to rediscover her forays into the worlds of Spiritual Music
(Hymns From The Heart), Americana (How The West Was Won), Latin
Rhythms (A Touch Of Tabasco) and the Nashville Sound (Country Hits
From The Heart). The rich legacy of songs from Broadway musicals is
visited in her selections from box office smashes such as
Finian’s Rainbow and South Pacific as well as the less familiar
Oh, Captain and Whoop-Up.This 8-CD compendium is topped off
with a lavishly illustrated __-page hardcover book containing a fully
detailed discography and Deborah Grace Winer’s biography of the
Clooney years 1958 to 1968. A thrilling portrait of one of the most
highly regarded singers the world has ever known.
